An exploration of UE5, Blueprint and MetaSound
This project was a collaborative effort with a fellow student from Sonic College (Alexander Vienberg). The shared goal was to learn Blueprint and MetaSound in Unreal Engine 5 over several weeks. Since both of us have experience in programming and middleware, this project aimed to explore the capabilities and limitations of UE5’s Blueprint compared to traditional scripting, and MetaSound versus conventional middleware like Wwise and FMOD.
The complexity of the game and the sound design were intentionally kept low to focus on learning the basics of Blueprint and MetaSound.
During this process, I learned how visual scripting can expedite much of the busy work of traditional coding and how the interconnectivity of scripting in-engine can lead to quick and efficient results. For example, using the velocity parameter of a fireball created in Blueprint to adjust the filtering and pitch of the SFX loop attached.
